Our latest dictionary acquisitions!
So it’s been a hot minute since I’ve had time to hang out in the Butterflies & Aliens Library – because [gestures at everything] – but I thought I jump in and share the latest two acquisitions in my dictionary collection. I decided a mental health day was required and so I went by Fair’s Fair and, being the science nerd that I am, these two books caught my eye immediately.
On the left is Aristotle to Zoos: A Philosophical Dictionary of Biology by P. B. Medawar and J. S. Medawar alongside The Wordsworth Dictionary of Biology: An alphabetical concentrate from amniotic fluid to zymogen from the Wordsworth Reference Library. The juxtaposition of biology and philosophy in the Medawar dictionary was especially weird and interesting to me.
I hope to write up a post about my entire dictionary collection one of these days, a relatively new collection that currently stands at twenty-two weird and unusual dictionaries, definitely not your conventional Webster’s dictionaries.
But until then, I hope you’re keeping sane wherever you are, and happy reading!
